Overview

Our established work party team would love some new members. Twice a month we meet at the viaduct to improve the natural habitat underneath. Cutting back scrub, protecting wildflower meadows and grassland, installing bird and bat boxes, creating insect habitats, cutting new pathways and maintaining old tracks, installing benches and protecting the viaduct from trees and scrub. Come to as many or few workdays as you can! Learn skills in habitat management, enjoy the fresh air, and see the effects of your hard work on this beautiful place.

The viaduct is a disused heritage railway bridge that has been reopened for walking and cycling. Based on the Nottinghamshire-Derbyshire border between Ilkeston and Awsworth. It also has natural habitats underneath, being expanded to promote the growth of its rare wildlife, plants, and insects. We also run outreach and education sessions in the local area. No experience is required, training will be provided, and we are flexible on time commitments. We are a small team and may have limited places available.
