Overview
We welcome members of the community to join us on Saturday mornings from 10am – 1pm. In the week we are open the last Wednesday of the month from 3pm – 5pm and we often have a social after this. You can drop in to visit and look around at any of these times and sometimes we can open for you to have a look around at other times in the week by arrangement. On a Saturday, we always have a tea and cake break around 11.30am, where you can relax and chat with fellow volunteers. It’s a great way to meet new people, learn, and contribute to a great cause.
Our garden is wheelchair accessible, and volunteers of all abilities are welcome. We’re here to support you, so whether you’re an experienced gardener or a beginner, we’d love to have you join us!
Come down, have fun, and make a positive impact on your community!
About us:
Shipley Community Garden is a 1.5-acre Community Garden is located on a former playing field, just 200 yards from the Pit Lane entrance on Hassock Lane South. This space has been transformed into a thriving garden, and we invite you to be part of it!
Volunteering at the Community Garden offers the opportunity to learn about growing sustainable organic food, care for the environment, and connect with others. Any surplus food is shared with our local food bank, Olio, and through our “Veg on the Hedge” planter for passers-by. It’s a wonderful way to give back to the community.
But the Community Garden is more than just a place to grow food—it’s a welcoming, safe space for everyone. It’s a place to learn, share, reflect, and have fun. The garden has been used for a variety of activities, including dance, stargazing, local history talks, wellness days, and wildlife days. If you have an idea for using the garden we’d love to hear from you.
Since Shipley Eco Action Group (SEAG) began working on the garden in September 2019, the transformation from a bare field to this vibrant space has been incredible. This achievement shows the power of community and the impact of giving a little time and effort. SEAG is incredibly proud of what’s been accomplished, and we’re grateful to all our volunteers and supporters.
