Overview
‘Schoolreaders’ is looking for volunteers to be matched with a local primary school where you will spend your time listening to children read to help them to improve their reading skills, their comprehension and their enjoyment and social skills.
Our volunteers visit their school for an hour or two, once a week in term time for a full year (holidays can be taken in this time).
You do not need any specific skills but do need to be over 18, have good spoken and written English and enjoy spending time with primary aged children.
Whilst we are unable to reimburse any travel expenses, we will try to match you to a school that is within walking distance or one that can be easily reached by car or public transport.
Once matched with a school, you will have a DBS check carried out but this cost is met by the school.
One of our volunteers in Lincolnshire says ‘I look forward to going to school every week and the children always greet me enthusiastically and are very friendly towards me, as are the Staff. It is very rewarding knowing that I am playing a small part towards helping the children and makes me feel that my contributions are valued and important.’
